2009: E Newsletter #5

August 14, 2009 - SWAIA

Dear Friends,

We had a magnificent evening at our honoring dinner with nearly 300 people in
attendance to celebrate the lives and careers of Houser Award recipients Sofia
Medina, Sam English and Oscar Howe, as well as our Povi'ka award winners,
Kenneth Chapman, Chuck Daily, Museum of New Mexico, and Barbara Reber.
The room was joyful and soulful with emotion as each honoree, when called to the
podium to receive their award, demonstrated their eminence and generosity
through enriching words and encouragement for future generations of artists.
It was--and will continue to be--an evening that reminds us of the deep cultural
roots of Native arts and artists, along with the commitment to community and
family. Congratulations to our recipients and thank you everyone for your support.
If you didn't have the opportunity to be at the Honoring Dinner, please join us at the
Plaza Stage at Indian Market on Saturday, August 22 at noon when we will
celebrate the lives of our honorees.
We would also like to remind everyone about the Live Auction Gala on August 22.
This event is sure to sell out again this year, so be sure to buy your tickets now.

If you have any questions about specific Indian Market events or need ticket
information please call (505) 983-5220 or visit
