A Message from the Executive Director

Happy Holidays Everyone!
I want to begin by thanking all who attended the Winter Indian Market. It was a tremendous success. Our attendance literally doubled from last year and some artists recorded their best sales ever--not just at the summer Indian Market or Winter Indian Market--ever! I would like to thank all of our amazing volunteers, especially Beth and Ross Altshuler, who worked as volunteer coordinators and secured many of the wonderful items in the silent auction.
If you can believe it, we are well into preparing for the 2012 Indian Market. Applications are arriving in the office; we expect another record number of applicants. Every application is juried to ensure that Indian Market will include the very best of the Native art world. It's true that it takes many months and many hands to make the Indian Market possible, and it is those applications that embody our commitment to do everything within our power to produce the largest and most important Native arts market in the world. Of course, we cannot do it alone.
Many of you have received our Annual Appeal letter in the mail. I would like to extend our sincerest gratitude those who have made a donation to this year's campaign. I would also like to encourage others to consider supporting SWAIA and the future of Indian Market. With you your support, SWAIA will be able to produce another memorable Indian Market and other events throughout the year. I know many people plan their year around being in Santa Fe in August, by working together you will help sustain what I know is an important part of your year. Together, we can secure the future of Native arts well into Indian Market's next century. Within this newsletter, you will find information on how your generous gift will benefit SWAIA and ultimately Native artists as well as how to make your donation online. You will also find information on becoming a SWAIA Member, and the many wonderful benefits available.
As we close the 90th year for the Santa Fe Indian Market, I would like to thank all of our brilliant members, business partners, collaborators and supporters - and a especially the artists. Please visit our home page, to find links for our many partner organizations. And as always, I want to extend a personal invitation to visit the 91st Indian Market. On behalf of the SWAIA Staff and Board of Directors, Happy Holidays from our family to yours. See you in August!
Warmest Regards,
Bruce Bernstein

Phew??!! What a way to end a year?! On the heels of a great summer market, the 2011 Winter Indian Market was fantastic! I know its hard-to-believe, but, next-stop, Indian Market 2012. Artists, please don't forget that your 2012 applications are due in our offices by 5:00 PM on January 13th (fellowship applications too). There is also the online application here. We will begin to jury artists into the show in February and acceptance letters will go out in March. We are on-track to have a record number of applications.
And don't forget the big change this year... SWAIA artists can now sell ANY art form in their booth (providing they meet SWAIA standards, of course). But they must enter art work for judging for which they submitted images and were juried into Market. In other words, if you submit four images of pottery with your application and were accepted into Market, you can enter pottery for judging, but you can sell in your booth both pottery and those two bracelets that you made in your jewelry class at Santa Fe Jewelry Supply.
