A variety of Native American cuisine can be found at the Santa Fe Indian Market food court next to the Sweeney Convention Center. From Indian Tacos to Chile Stews to Mutton on Fry Bread, a unique taste of Native American culture is available from early morning until the closing of Market.
Some past food vendors who have satisfied the appetites of Indian Market attendees are:
- Darrell Simpson of Simpson's Concession from Bloomfield, NM who has been in the food business for the past 30 years. Simpson's menu consists of roasted corn, grilled mutton sandwiches with green peppers and onion, squash stew with corn and chunks of lamb and of course home-made fry bread.
- Patrick Toya of Pat's Place from Jemez Pueblo, NM has a menu which includes atole (blue corn mush), bowls of green or red chile with fry bread, traditional Pueblo style oven bread and pies. Pat has been in the food business for 23 years.
- Maebell Yazzie of Yazzie's Concession from Farmington, NM serves Navajo bluecorn pancakes, steamed dry corn stew, lamb stew with homemade noodles in addition to a variety of other tasty foods.
Food vendors who can provide a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) from a federally recognized tribe and a menu that reflects their tribal background are eligible to apply. All food vendors must abide by rules and regulations set forth by SWAIA, the State of New Mexico Environmental Department and City of Santa Fe's requirements for food vending.
